MORE INFO FROM LISA HALEY/COMMENTS ABOUT OFFICERS

February 28th, 2006

2/28/06

Greetings Local 47 Colleagues,

As we promised, here are some of the reactions we’ve gotten to date about the classless way Barbara Markay, a 15 year employee and business rep of the Local was fired and the possibly illegal conduct of a NON-ELECTED Local 47 employee, Doug Caine.

These are also reactions to the series of E-mails that went between Lisa Haley of the Freelance Musicians Association and Doug Caine, Executive Board Frontman (Listed as Office Manager).

You input in very welcome. Next we will send you testimonials of some of those who’ve benefited from Barbara’s expertise:

THE COMMENTS

•••••••••••••••••••••••••

This is absurd/outrageous, and simply not acceptable.
Many thanks to the Committee for bringing this matter
to the membership. Her (Barbara’s) hard work has obviously gone to
the wayside and her and all of her hard work have been
pushed out the back door like a bag of garbage.

I agree, lets have accountability within the union.

OUR CONVERSATION WITH BARBARA MARKAY

February 15th, 2006

Greetings Local 47 Colleagues!,

As we promised, here is our conversation with Barbara Markey,
the 15-year employee fired in a most embarrassing and
demeaning way.

It’s a bit of a read, but please take the time. This is important
information about the conduct that is being allowed by our
Executive Officers. From what we gather, much or most of the
board has been out of the loop on these actions.

Please read this and send it far and wide. This conduct will not
be stopped until we stand together and demand accountability!

Thank You

THE COMMITTEE

Our conversation with Barbara Markay.

We recently had a lengthy conversation with Barbara Markey, a
15-year employee and business rep for Local 47 who returned
from vacation to find out she’d been fired while she was out of
town!

ANOTHER NON-MEETING WITH PREJUDICE/OVERTURE REFUSES LETTER/MEETING POEM

January 28th, 2006

January 28, 2006

Greetings Local 47 Colleagues,
Lot’s to cover this time and lots to get worked up about our Local!

I. Another non-meeting with a side of arrogance.
(Board votes to keep quorum at 100 the following day)
II. A Poem commemorating the auspicious evening.
III. Members rebuttal letter is refused for Overture printing.
IV. Reminder of Ewart Family blood drive on February 7th at the Union

I.
Bravo to the 83-86 Members who took the time to show up for
the once again NON-Meeting last Monday at the Local. Needless
to say there were some very upset members at the gathering,
members who made their displeasure known in a very vocal way,
especially when President Espinoza declared the meeting adjourned
at 7:10pm. A former member of the Local 47 board said they
never remembered a meeting being adjourned so quickly before.
No one on the committee ever remembered a meeting being
adjourned so quickly either, but there it was.

SCHOLARSHIP DEBACLE UPDATE/GROKSTER/OCTOBER NON-MEETING/RACHMANINOFF

November 3rd, 2005

GREETINGS LOCAL 47 COLLEAGUES!,

This bulletin is a long read, but we hope you’ll take the time to read it. It is VERY informative.

In this edition
I. Update on the 2004-2005 Scholarship situation
II. The Grokster decision
III. A Reply concerning Local 47’s October NON-meeting
IV. Resolution of the Rachmaninoff Competition situation.

We hope you’re all having a great and profitable Holiday season. There’s much to cover this time around, so without further delay:

I.) LOCAL 47 member Charles Fernandez has sent us an update concerning the 2004-2005 Scholarship awarded to the son of Vice-President Vince Trombetta when notice wasn’t sent to the membership.

Here is his update:

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Fellow Local 47 members,

Recently the Committee forwarded a letter I sent to the Overture to this list. To summarize briefly, in the July 2004 Overture there was a picture of Nicolas Trombetta receiving a $2,000 (two thousand dollar) check for the 2004-2005 Music Fund Scholarship. The problem was, through a truly innocent mistake by the Overture staff, the notice of the scholarship’s availability was never published. The questions naturally arose, “How did VP Trombetta’s son know about it,.. and how can the scholarship be awarded when the general membership is not informed?

UNIONS/LEGISLATION/POLITICAL PURPOSES

October 6th, 2005

Greetings Local 47 Colleagues,

A couple more responses to the discussion concerning Unions,
Legislation and using dues for political purposes.

It is our understanding that while the Local may choose to endorse a particular candidate, only money given voluntarily to TEMPO can be used for political purposes.
If you don’t want your money used, don’t give it to TEMPO. This is further discussed by John Given below.

If we are mistaken, please write in and let us know.

Dear Comm Resp 47:

>From Lisa Haley (feel free to post my name):
I’m very glad you are providing these different points of view.

COMMENTS CONCERNING RIGHTS

October 4th, 2005

Greetings Local 47 Colleagues!,

We have some additional comments and counter comments
concerning the rights issue for union members.

As a reminder to those who frequent the list, unless you give
specific permission your name will never be included in these
mailings. Only in this way can we guarantee your privacy from
potential retribution.

Today’s Comments:

I think it is good and necessary to have a place to discuss
union issues without reprisal. This email forum does just that.
If we had jobs with tenure or contract, this anonymous forum
perhaps wouldn’t be necessary. But since jobs are gotten by
whom one knows and whom one likes, it would be really
impossible to get honest opinions in an open, unsecret,
if you will, forum.
Let’s not quibble about who has set this dialogue in motion and
get to the point.
That being said, I think it would be a good idea for whoever
“the committee” is to label their opinion as such so we know who
the contributors are and who management is. No names necessary.

Thank you to John Given for his summary and links on the bills
for/against unionism.

COMMENTS and MORE COMMENTS/MONOPOLIES

September 10th, 2005

Greetings 47 COLLEAGUES,

It’s been a while since we have sent out general comments
from the members. We’ve received several comments concerning
the letter from the secretary-treasurer Serena, but we will save
those until the final comments come in.

Also, in the next few days we will give you a short report on the
caucuses before the negotiations this past week. You should
find it interesting as much for the denial going on as for the
caucuses themselves.
