COLLEAGUES,

Please mark your calendar now to attend the April 28th, 2008 General Membership meeting. There’ll be an important special election to fill a
vacancy on the board–a chance to elect a board member who knows
the needs and frustrations of free-lance musicians.
The board has temporarily appointed Paul Castillo to fill the vacancy
(Mike Grego has just resigned). Mr. Castillo will undoubtedly run to make it permanent till the December election at the April 28 meeting. We’ll keep you posted on any other candidates who emerge.

There will also be an election for the election board, since their term is up.

If you want a voice, use it! Please join your brothers and sisters on April 28th and help make our Local’s infrastructure more balanced.

I. HYPOCRISY IN LONDON

Colleagues,
We recently received this email from quite a distinguished
colleague in our business and we would like to answer it here.

——-
Committee,

Can you verify this for me? I understand (from a pretty reliable
source) that Pete Anthony (RMALA President) recently went to
London to conduct a score for James Newton Howard. Is this a
truth? If so, why hasn’t anyone said anything about this here?

——

It is true.

The film was “The Waterhorse: Legend of the Deep”. It was a
score by James Newton Howard. Pete Anthony, the current RMALA
President did in fact conduct the sessions at Abbey Road in
London. He, as well as many other A listers, were listed as
orchestrators as well.

I. ADVENTURES IN NEW YORK

The information below has been verified by several sources in New York.

Recently, RMA International President Phil Ayling went on quite an
adventure in the big apple. We¹ve heard about and were mystified at
three of his stops, but the real reason will become clear.

This trip took place at the very time President Lee and Secretary Folio of
the National AFM were meeting with the new RMALA Board here in Los
Angeles.
