I. PROBLEMS WITH NEW PROPOSED METRO CONTRACT
We have just received this comment from a LOCAL 47 member:
Dear Committee,
Please post ASAP
I just received the new proposed Metropolitan and Community
Orchestra Master Agreement for ratification, and I am concerned
about the specific language in the following articles:
Article VI, Paragraph L: It is nice that the Health & Welfare has
been increased from 8% to 10%, however it would appear that
the employer is now only required to pay H&W on performances
and not for the rehearsals. This would actually reduce our H&W
contribution, not increase it.
Article VIII, Paragraph A: The language should read “Cartage fee
of $25.00 for each timpani.” However, this new contract has
omitted timpani completely from the cartage list.
I’m sure both of these items are simply due to lack of proofreading
before this was mailed. Certainly we do not want to ratify a
contract with such loopholes, do we?
PLEASE DON’T RATIFY THIS CONTRACT UNTIL THESE ITEMS HAVE
BEEN FIXED!!!
Sincerely,
————–
[Editor’s note: We would like to know who negotiated this agreement
if it does indeed let employers not pay H and W on rehearsals.
We find it hard to believe this is actually the case. More likely it is
carelessness in the writing of the contract. Also, who forgets
timpani on an orchestral contract? Sounds more like a sloppy job
than a deliberate gutting of monies to players. Some one needs
to check this out and fix the contract ASAP.

I. CORRECTIONS TO FILM LIST FROM LAST MAILING
It’s great that we can trust our readers to set us straight
when we inadvertently get something wrong! We received
these emails shortly after our last mailing:
Please make the following correction-The Kite Runner
and Enchanted were done in LA. This stuff should be
checked before publishing.
——
FYI: Enchanted and Beowulf were scored here in
LA AFM… as was at least part of Kite Runner. There
Will Be Blood was scored in London. (and a lot of it was
prerecorded for other projects).
However, you can add:
Seattle: THE INCREDIBLE HULK
London: IRONMAN, Bourne Ultimatum, Surf’s Up,
Bee Movie, Prince Caspian, Batman: the Dark Knight
Most animated companies are not signatory to the AFM,
neither is Marvel Comics (who produced Iron Man and the
new Hulk.. and the new Avengers movie etc.)

I. COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES NEW BLOG
There used to be four AFM related blogs. Two allowed
anonymous comments, two did not. Over the last year,
the two that allowed anonymous comments have disappeared.
We couldn’t have that!
We’re proud to announce our new blog, www.responsible47.com.
Here you can read previous mailings, ALL OF THEM (Or at least
the ones we could find). Our archives go all the way back to
January, 2005! You can also search for key words in the mailings,
leave comments, join or remove yourself from the list, or use our
links to go to a variety of websites, including the other AFM
related blogs.
As we send out our mailings, we’ll also post them on the site.
Well also take comments from the site and include them in mailings.
While we will allow all comers to post, we will of course reserve
the right to edit profanity or inappropriate language.
Please sign on and ENJOY!
