They\u2019ve included the price in this one! <\/p>\n<p>THE COMMITTEE FOR A MORE RESPONSIBLE LOCAL 47 <\/p>\n<p>ASMAC<br \/>\nThe American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers<br \/>\nannounces <\/p>\n<p>WRITING FOR ORCHESTRA<br \/>\na workshop\/lecture by Composer<br \/>\nBruce Broughton <\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Saturday, July 23rd<br \/>\nfrom 10am to 1pm in the auditorium of<br \/>\nLos Angeles Valley College<br \/>\n5800 Fulton Avenue, Valley Glen, CA 91401-4096<br \/>\n(818)947-2600<br \/>\n(Near the corner of Fulton and Oxnard) <\/p>\n<p>Free to members of ASMAC<br \/>\nNon-members\/Students $10<\/p>\n<p>One of the most versatile composers working in films today,<br \/>\nBruce Broughton writes in every medium, from theatrical motion<br \/>\npictures, television and computer games to the concert stage, in<br \/>\nstyles ranging from large symphonic settings to contemporary<br \/>\nelectronic scores. <\/p>\n<p>His first major film score, a broad orchestral canvas for Lawrence<br \/>\nKasdan\u2019s western SILVERADO, brought him an Oscar nomination.<br \/>\nHis very next assignment, a classically styled score for Barry<br \/>\nLevinson\u2019s YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES, resulted in a Grammy<br \/>\nnomination for the soundtrack album. <\/p>\n<p>Broughton, composing in a broad range of styles, has written<br \/>\nthe scores for such major motion pictures as LOST IN SPACE,<br \/>\nTOMBSTONE, MIRACLE ON 34th STREET, CARRIED AWAY, BABY\u2019S<br \/>\nDAY OUT, THE PRESIDIO, NARROW MARGIN, HARRY AND THE<br \/>\nHENDERSONS, THE BOY WHO COULD FLY, the Disney animated<br \/>\nfeature THE RESCUERS DOWN UNDER and the two popular<br \/>\nHOMEWARD BOUND adventures.  In a lighter vein he wrote the<br \/>\neffervescent music for KRIPPENDORF&#8217;S TRIBE, as well as the<br \/>\ncomedy hit HONEY, I BLEW UP THE KID!  He conducted and<br \/>\nsupervised the recording of Gershwin\u2019s RHAPSODY IN BLUE for<br \/>\nFANTASIA 2000. <\/p>\n<p>With 21 nominations, he has received the Emmy award nine<br \/>\ntimes, most recently for his score for ELOISE AT CHRISTMASTIME.<br \/>\nHis television credits include the main title themes for JAG,<br \/>\nTINY TOON ADVENTURES and DINOSAURS and scores for<br \/>\nAMAZING STORIES, QUINCY and HOW THE WEST WAS WON,<br \/>\nmovies for television such as LUCY, BOBBY\u2019S GIRL, and<br \/>\nO PIONEERS!, as well as the miniseries ROUGHING IT, THE BLUE<br \/>\nAND THE GRAY and the Emmy Award-winning TRUE WOMEN. <\/p>\n<p>His score for HEART OF DARKNESS was the first orchestral score<br \/>\ncomposed for a video game. <\/p>\n<p>As a concert composer, he recently recorded his FANFARES,<br \/>\nMARCHES, HYMNS and FINALE at Skywalker Studios with The Bay<br \/>\nBrass, who commissioned the work. Other concert works include<br \/>\nTHE MAGIC HORN (commissioned jointly by the Chicago, Seattle<br \/>\nand National Symphonies for the Magic Circle Mime Company);<br \/>\nENGLISH MUSIC for Horn and Strings; THREE INCONGRUITIES, a<br \/>\ntriptych for violin and orchestra; TYVEK WOOD, commissioned<br \/>\nby the Debussy Trio, premiered in Prague in the summer of 1999;<br \/>\nMODULAR MUSIC, composed for the Los Angeles Chamber<br \/>\nOrchestra; a piccolo concerto; a tuba concerto; several chamber<br \/>\nworks such as the TOCCATA for Two Harps and Percussion,<br \/>\nFINGERPRINTS OF CHILDHOOD for flute, violin and viola, A<br \/>\nPRIMER FOR MALACHI for flute, clarinet, cello and piano, as well<br \/>\nas several solo works for winds, most notably a HORN SONATA<br \/>\ncomposed for Dale Clevenger, principal horn in the Chicago<br \/>\nSymphony, and EXCURSIONS, commissioned and premiered by<br \/>\nThe United States Air Force Band in Washington, D.C. <\/p>\n<p>As a conductor, his recordings of Miklos Rozsa\u2019s IVANHOE<br \/>\nand JULIUS CAESAR for Intrada records, performed by the<br \/>\nSinfonia of London shortly before the composer\u2019s death, have<br \/>\nreceived outstanding reviews, as well as his recording of Bernard<br \/>\nHerrmann&#8217;s unique score for JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS. <\/p>\n<p>Broughton is a board member of ASCAP, a governor of the<br \/>\nAcademy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a former governor<br \/>\nof the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and past<br \/>\npresident of The Society of Composers and Lyricists. He has<br \/>\ntaught film composition in the Advanced Film Music Studies<br \/>\nprogram at USC and is a lecturer at UCLA. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Greetings Local 47 Colleagues!.
