I. REACTION TO “NINE MINUTES”<\/p>\n
RE: 9 minutes<\/p>\n
Hi Editor!<\/p>\n
Very funny… Some time ago Pres. Acosta went
\nto see the Burbank Symphony and his comment
\nwas “they were really good for a community
\norchestra”.<\/p>\n
Guess someone had to point out to him that
\nnearly all of the players are Local 47
\nmembers. Just no one he knows! LOL<\/p>\n
No wonder someone was sent over to
\n“rally the troops”…(acknowledge
\ntheir existence).<\/p>\n
[EC: Acosta has no respect for anyone he
\ndoesn’t know. and what a condescending
\nremark about the Burbank Phil. Typical
\nIgnorance and arrogance from Acosta.]<\/p>\n

II. 35<\/p>\n
What does 35 mean besides the obvious?
\nThat’s the number of films recorded on
\nAFM contracts last year. You read right,
\nonly 35 were recorded AFM last year,
\na thin shadow of what it used to be.<\/p>\n
So few films, such a small amount of pension
\nand HandW contributions.<\/p>\n
And you know exactly who to thank, don’t you?<\/p>\n
The IEB knows, Local 47 and John Acosta know
\nexactly why it’s so few films and why our pension
\nis in such dire straits.<\/p>\n
Lots of folks drawing on the pension with so little
\ncoming in because the work has been exported,
\nand meanwhile even Brussels is now recording
\nfilm and TV.<\/p>\n
So few musicians are recording regularly now that
\nensemble quality has deteriorated. Many composers
\nhave noticed and prefer recording elsewhere even
\nwhen they can get union contracts.<\/p>\n
We’re told it is infinitely easier to deal with ANYONE
\nother than the afm.<\/p>\n
Why don’t you call the AFM, Local 47 thank them for
\nthe destruction of our industry and burying their heads
\nrather tell the RMA to hit the road.<\/p>\n
The AFM has become a joke and we’re all
\npaying the price for it.<\/p>\n

The concert will feature guest soloist, Professor Meng-Chieh
\nLiu of the world renowned New England Conservatory as
\nwell as the Curtis Institute performing the 2nd Piano

The orchestra is made up of talented young musicians ages
\n12 through college age. They gain admission to the orchestra
\nthrough our annual competitive audition which is coming up in
\nthe summer. If there are any young and talented music
\nstudents playing an orchestral instrument, please feel
