FRANK CAPP PASSES<\/p>\n<p>Frank Capp, a flexible and consistently swinging drummer<br \/>\nwho loved nothing more than driving a big band, has passed.<\/p>\n<p>As leader of the Juggernaut (a group he co-led with Nat Pierce<br \/>\nstarting in 1975, until the pianist&#8217;s death in 1992), he got to<br \/>\npush and inspire some of Los Angeles&#8217; best.<br \/>\nCapp found his initial fame playing with Stan Kenton&#8217;s<br \/>\nOrchestra (1951). Two years later, he settled in Los<br \/>\nAngeles; became a busy studio musician; and played<br \/>\nwith everyone from Ella Fitzgerald, Harry James, and<br \/>\nCharlie Barnet to Stan Getz, Art Pepper, and Dave Pell.<\/p>\n<p>We will inform you if we hear of a service.<\/p>\n<p>==========================<\/p>\n<p>II. MEMORIAL FOR MAURICE GRANT<\/p>\n<p>Recently we lost a dear colleague, cellist Maurice<br \/>\nGrant. The large turnout at his funeral was a<br \/>\ntestament to his popularity and talent.<\/p>\n<p>Maurice&#8217;s memorial will be\u00a0on Monday\u00a0evening,<br \/>\nSeptember 25th at 6:30\u00a0at the<br \/>\nCongregational Church of the Chimes,<br \/>\n14115 W. Magnolia Blvd. in Sherman Oaks.<\/p>\n<p>Participation, musical or otherwise, is welcome.<br \/>\nPlease contact Elizabeth (Lissy) Wilson or<br \/>\nArmen Ksadjikian.<\/p>\n<p>===========================<\/p>\n<p>III. And while we\u2019re at it \u2013 a so-called cello\/bass\/<br \/>\nmusical saw player (that\u2019s how you\u2019re listed)<br \/>\ncommenting on an oboe player\u2019s sound?? How<br \/>\nabout Yo-Yo Ma can still get a better sound<br \/>\nthan you by playing on his ocarina.
