I. LOCAL ON THE WARPATH FOR RANK AND FILE<\/p>\n
As anyone with an IQ above room temperature knows,
\nNO musician outside the rarefied air of the recording
\nelite or the LA Phil can survive on only union work.
\nIt simply isn’t there any more.
\nFor musicians, there are only two options left:
\n1) Work non-union
\n2) Get out of the music business.<\/p>\n
Some members of the Local’s Executive Board play
\nnon-union work.<\/p>\n
Some Members of the Trial Board play non-union work<\/p>\n
Members at every level, INCLUDING the recording
\nelites, play or work on nonunion projects.<\/p>\n
But our Local chooses to engage in selective
\nenforcement. If you’re a regular rank and file,
\nor someone who causes\u00a0the board grief through
\nthat member’s activism, you are far more likely
\nto\u00a0be\u00a0a target, whether the charges are legit or
\nnot. Why do this? To get the offending members
\nto leave the union or cost them\u00a0thousands of
\ndollars defending themselves.<\/p>\n
There is one particular Local employee, going
\nfull bore against anyone\u00a0not in the “circle” who
\nis caught \/ suspected of working non-union,
\nor perhaps…if they just want to harass you.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, they steer clear of the board room
\nor well politically\u00a0placed occupants. And they’re
\nusing your own dues money to do it.<\/p>\n
The AFM has (apparently) shown themselves
\nto be (oblivious) rubber stamps of this
\nharassment, not holding the Locals to their
\nown\u00a0bylaws that are supposed to protect
\nmembers from warrantless, solely political
\nretaliation.<\/p>\n
Their harassment of rank and file members is
\ncausing\u00a0people who otherwise support the
\nidea of a union\u00a0to resign. It is no secret …
\nthe urban legend …get rid of the “weekend
\nworkers”…charge those that remain the
\nkind of dues some of the other entertainment
\ntrades require…Voil\u00e0 Only the “cartel” is left
\nfor composers and studios to choose from
\nwhen staffing for commercial music.<\/p>\n

\nwe will keep your\u00a0ID Sacrosanct.<\/p>\n

This will be the first public performance of the orchestra
\nthis season, The orchestra is made up of talented young
\nmusicians who gain\u00a0admittance to perform in the orchestra
\nthrough annual competitive auditions, and student of Cal
\nState University, Los Angeles. The featured soloists this
\nconcert will be John Carpenter, pianist; and\u00a0Chunyi Zhou,
\nviolinist.<\/p>\n
Works will include:
\nLeonora Overture No.2 by Beethoven
\nSymphony No.8 by Dvorak
\nSymphony Espagnole by Lalo
\nTotentanz by Liszt.<\/p>\n
We will also be\u00a0honoring Dr. Nikolaos Koutouratsas,
\nthe late president of the Hennings-Fischer Foundation
\nwhich has given the orchestra so much\u00a0help these
\npast years with this concert.<\/p>\n
Please come witness the talents of these young musicians
