I. SECRETARY LASHINSKY RESPONDS
from Secretary Lashinsky:
Please print this reply in its entirety:
The comments and editorial inserts included in the COMM RESP 47
email of 3/12/09 referring to my behavior and activities are false.
The “Committee” is a tiny group that perpetrates hurtful and inaccurate
hearsay and fabrications: email yellow journalism.
Leslie Lashinsky
Secretary/Treasurer
Professional Musicians, Local 47

OUR RESPONSE:
In your communication to us, which we have printed exactly as you
requested, you claim that we have made references to your behavior
and activities that are false. Specifically what references are you
referring to?:
- Playing jobs within the jurisdiction?
- Given permission to take those jobs by the board?
- Make a salary of $75,000 per year plus benefits?
- Had interactions with the membership that got characterized as unprofessional?
Please tell us precisely what we got wrong, or what specifically was incorrect
in the member’s comment.

Open Letter to Ms. Lashinsky
Ms Lashinsky,
Opinions are just that. We do strive to base our opinions
on facts. And we welcome a dialogue and debate on the issues.
Editorials are snapshots of our points of view - just as when you write
in the Overture each month.
Last month you wrote about your pleasant train ride to attend the
Western Union Conference, and what you saw out the train window,
your dreams and your recurring nightmares. That’s nice. Not one
word about what went on at the conference, or what you did for
the members at Local 47 last month, or what issues are being dealt
with by the Local. Accountability is something the members should
expect and receive from our officers, and not have to demand it.
Unfortunately we are left no other choice than to demand it, which
we strive to do as respectfully as possible.
If the Executive Board grants the officer special permission to play a
competitive job in the jurisdiction, then the officer can perform.. It
seems you have been given carte blanch to perform as much as you
possibly can.
The job of Secretary Treasurer of Local 47, the largest local in the
federation, is a huge Job. How can you be perceived as committed to
this full time job when you are so frequently not in the office?
We believe the membership will reach their own conclusions regarding
these issues and need to have answers from their elected officials.
This forum was established for union members to share information,
discuss issues, air gripes, and yes, to let off steam in a safe setting
where views can be expressed without fear of retribution. We try our
best to get it right and stand by the right to express our opinion and
allow members to do the same.
We will be happy to correct the record if need be.
THE COMMITTEE
